Prayers to Emily Roth, her family, friends and classmates.

Emily Virginia Roth is the strongest person I know. If you have the blessing of knowing Emily personally, you know that she is an incredibly intelligent individual who shows fortitude and composure with everything she does. Unfortunately, she now needs our help. On Saturday, June 20th at around 10:00 AM, a pressurized can of cooking spray exploded into flames at her local place of employment. Emily was nearest to the flames, and thus took the full force of the explosion. She is now left with third degree burns on her face, hands, and leg, affecting more than 20% of her body. Emily is being cared for at St. Barnabas Medical Center’s Burn Unit in Livingston, New Jersey. She is 18 years old, and would have participated in her graduation ceremony on Tuesday, June 23rd with not only her graduating class but also the National Honors Society within Morris Knolls High School. Emily wishes to study engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York and was incredibly excited to receive her acceptance into their 2019 graduating class. To help ease the burden, Emily’s friends have decided to start a fund to help collect all they can to give to the Roth family. The funds will go directly to her mother, father, 13 year old sister, and autistic 7 year old brother. All donations will be used towards the impending medical bills the family faces, as well as any rehabilitative or future therapies Emily and her family may need. Please be as generous as you can. Emily is a fighter who we are all incredibly proud of, and your thoughts and prayers are essential during this trying time.

**TWO MORE HOSTAGE SCAM CALLS**

In the past two days we have dealt with residents who have received the “Hostage Scam” call. After conferring with the FBI we have learned that the calls appear to be originating out of the country and using a program that shows on your caller ID as a local number in NJ. The people perpetrating the scam have done their homework and are very convincing. We are not 100% sure where or how they have gotten all the information they have but we do caution what you post on social media sites.

The last two calls involved a loved one being held hostage and the caller being instructed to go to the bank and withdrawal money and go to a CVS where they will be given more instructions. Always call your family member who is believed to be held hostage and make sure they are OK. If for some reason this were an actual situation you will need to contact the police immediately. In both cases we have dealt with they were indeed scams and all family members were fine. The phone number used in this recent scam is the same as the post below…

From another Facebook post on News 12…”just got scammed….. I received a call from this number 862-307-6515 telling me that my brother got into an accident, i asked the name of my brother but they wouldn’t tell me, i told them the name of my brother and mine by mistake, after i had said my brothers name and mine they confirmed that it was him in fact, they told me that my brother wanted to call the police to file a complaint but he didn’t because he had criminal records, so he took a gun out and started punching my brother and took him to his grandmothers house until i sent money to them, they told me not to hang up the phone and not to call the police and not to contact any family members. needless to say, i went to cvs and sent a money gram to Puerto Rico for $650.00 because i was worried about my brother…please make the public aware of this scam. it’s very scary”.

Be Safe!!

**Utility Scam Update From JCP&L**

**Utility Scam Update From JCP&L**

We want to make you aware of a long-running, nationwide utility scam that is again being reported in New Jersey. The scam involves a caller posing as an electric company employee threatening to shut off power unless an immediate payment is made, using a pre-paid debit card such as a Green Dot card. These pre-paid cards are available at convenience stores and drug stores, and customers can use them to pay bills or add money to online accounts. However, JCP&L does not endorse the use of Green Dot cards as a bill |
|payment method. If a customer receives a call from someone demanding payment of their electric bill by using a Green Dot card, they are being scammed and should report the crime to local authorities.
