Denville Library Under Construction

@DenvilleLibrary

Library Building Closed,
Services Available at Denville Museum

2/9 Update: The Denville Library building will continue to be closed. Our original contractor encountered unexpected circumstances with regard to the subflooring and we agreed for our mutual convenience to terminate the agreement and that the Library would move forward with a different contractor. There’s also an issue of dust from the old flooring, which while not harmful, will need to be cleared as part of the overall project.

But we are **OPEN AT THE DENVILLE MUSEUM** (the white building across the parking lot from the library) with these services:

– Holds pickup when notified

– Limited browsing and checkout of a small collection

– Checkout of most items currently housed at the library as long as they are available and accessible. Just give us time to grab your items!

– Museum passes for Denville residents

– Reference assistance

– Events at Denville Town Hall (1 St. Mary’s Place)

– Craft kits for kids

– New library cards for Denville residents

– Return of library items

Please come visit us during our regular business hours! And thank you for your continued patience.

Author Robert Jones, Jr. (formerly known as “Son of Baldwin”)

Denville Library – 8/15/2023 @ 4:00pm – 5:00pm

All are welcome and encouraged to join the Denville Library for an engaging hour online with New York Times bestselling author Robert Jones, Jr., as he discusses his debut and award-winning novel, The Prophets.

The Prophets is a story of love. Isaiah was Samuel’s, and Samuel was Isaiah’s. That was how it was from the beginning and how it was to be until the end. In the barn, they tended to the animals but also to each other, transforming the hollowed-out shed into a place of human refuge, a source of intimacy and hope in a world ruled by vicious masters. But when an older man—a fellow slave—seeks to gain favor by preaching the master’s gospel on the plantation, the enslaved begin to turn on their own. Isaiah and Samuel’s love, once so simple, is seen as sinful and a clear danger to the plantation’s harmony.

Robert Jones, Jr. fiercely summons the voices of slaver and enslaved alike. As tensions build and the weight of centuries—of ancestors and future generations to come—culminates in a climactic reckoning, The Prophets fearlessly reveals the pain and suffering of inheritance but is also shot through with hope, beauty, and truth, portraying the enormous, heroic power of love.
