Naturalist Mike Leone will lead a 2 hour walk in Jonathan’s Woods to discover the hidden secrets of the forest by slowing down and taking a closer look at the plants and animals that inhabit this temperate mixed deciduous woodland. We will also look for signs of how the ecosystem has been altered by early settlers and grazing livestock. Prior to arrival of European settlers, Native Americans occupied these forests and searched for edible plants, nuts, fruits, mushrooms and medicinal herbs. We’ll see how many of these native plants we can find while looking for nesting birds, mammals and other surprises. All ages welcome! Some areas we explore may be wet, muddy or rocky. Wear sturdy hiking shoes; bring your camera, binoculars and water. Dress appropriately for the weather as we will go rain or shine.
