Tour de Turtles Update – Disney’s Trixie and Mrs. Potato Head

The 11th annual Tour de Turtles at Disney’s Vero Beach Resort, released two loggerhead turtles on an adventure into the big blue world. The festivities were themed to “Toy Story” to celebrate the opening of Toy Story Land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. This fun, family-friendly educational event promoted sea turtle care and conservation. The “Toy Story” theme also inspired the two turtles’ names, Trixie and Mrs. Potato Head.

Opioid Crisis Presentation by MCPO on 8/15
The Morris County Prosecutor’s Office is pleased to announce the hosting of “The Opioid Crisis: Engaging the Community” as the second event under New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir Grewal’s “21-County, 21st Century Community Policing Project”. The “21/21 Community Policing Project” was implemented in 2018 with the goal of building better relationships between law enforcement and the communities in which they serve. Every county prosecutor’s office in New Jersey will host a community outreach event once a quarter. For the first quarter, the theme of the program was “Officer Involved Shootings”, and the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office hosted a successful event at the Morris County Public Safety Training Academy. The theme for the second quarter’s program is “The Opioid Crisis”.
This event will be held on Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at Christ Church in Rockaway Township. The presentation will run from 7:00pm through 9:00pm, but the doors will be open at 6:00pm so those in attendance can visit the various informational tables setup by service providers throughout the venue. The Morris County Prosecutor’s Office is partnering with Christ Church, the Morris County Sheriff’s Office, and Morris Center for Addiction Recovery Education & Success (CARES) to host this event. In addition to Vance Johnson, former NFL player and Super Bowl Champion, the speakers for the night will include Morris County Prosecutor Fredric Knapp, and Morris County Chief Assistant Prosecutor Bradford Seabury. A panel discussion will follow the speakers.
The evening will begin with welcoming remarks from Lead Pastor David Ireland and Prosecutor Knapp. Following their remarks, Chief Assistant Prosecutor Seabury will present his “Opiates 101” program, which explains the Heroin and Opioid Epidemic, and details the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office’s strategy against addiction. Vance Johnson will follow CAP Seabury’s presentation with his own inspirational talk about his personal experiences fighting substance abuse disorder. Following the two presentations, there will be a panel discussion comprised of Sheriff James Gannon, Lead Pastor David Ireland, Assistant U.S. Attorney Erica Liu, Barbara Kauffman of Morris CARES, and Jim Curtin of Daytop with the goal of sharing differing perspectives on the Heroin and Opioid Epidemic, as well as how each respective group is working together to make a difference in Morris County. The audience will have the opportunity to engage in a Q&A session with the panel following their discussion.
Prosecutor Knapp stated, “The Morris County Prosecutor’s Office is extremely excited to partner with several community organizations on this critically important topic. We are thrilled to have Vance Johnson, who is a dynamic and inspirational speaker to present his story of recovery”.

Denville PD Seeking Applicants for P/T Parking Enforcement Officer
The Denville Police Department is accepting applications for an opening as a part-time Parking Enforcement Officer. The position will allow up to 27 hours of work per week with a minimum starting salary of $20 per hour. The work schedule may include Saturdays.
The duties associated with this position are enforcement of local parking ordinances, issuing summonses to violators, providing a visible presence, working outdoors in varying weather conditions and other duties as assigned. This is a uniformed position.
Applicants must possess a high school diploma, a valid NJ driver’s license with an excellent driving record and have no criminal history. They must also pass a criminal background check, medical exam and a drug test.

The Delaware Valley Raptor Center, which rescues and rehabilitates injured birds, will be here with live birds of prey (raptors, owls, and more)!
Kids in grades K-6, please visit us on Wednesday, August 1st at 3:30 pm to see these awesome creatures in person and learn about the Center’s conservation efforts.

July 30, 1998, Disney launched it’s first cruise ship, the Disney Magic.

The Disney Magic has 11 public decks, can accommodate 2,700 passengers in 875 staterooms, and has a crew of approximately 950. The interior of Disney Magic is decorated in the Art Deco style, in contrast to her sister ship, Disney Wonder, which is decorated in the Art Nouveau style.
Disney’s Magic’s ship’s horn blast plays an excerpt from Disney’s famous flagship tune, “When You Wish upon a Star”.

Fun Tidbit. Disney loves incorporating their theme music. Did you know that Disney World use to have a runway where small aircraft use to land? This was before the monorail was put in. When small aircraft use to land at Disney World, the runway was (still is) grooved so when tires get speeds up to 45 miles per hour, the friction actually plays, “When you wish upon a star”.

Tour de Turtles teams up our Disney’s Animals, Science & Environment Team with the Sea Turtle Conservancy to celebrate two loggerheads’ great migration and track their journey from nesting on the beach to their foraging grounds. As part of Disney’s overall commitment to sea turtle conservation, the team regularly monitors sea turtle nesting activity on several miles of beach near Disney’s Vero Beach Resort, which happens to be one of the most active sea turtle nesting areas in Florida.
