10-night Northern Europe cruise to Enchanting Storybook Lands!

All aboard the Disney Magic as she sets sail to Northern Europe! CaribbeanDays, an Authorized Disney Vacation Planner, can book your cruise!

2019, the Disney Magic debarks for Fredericia, Denmark! Be Our Guest on this enchanting adventure of charming streets, beautiful churches and old houses set within historic 17th-century ramparts! These surrounding areas of Denmark are steeped in Viking history, and there’s even a special Disney connection nearby at the home of the renowned fairy tale author who inspired many beloved Disney films, Hans Christian Andersen!

Itinerary:

Take in the views: Go for a stroll along Fredericia’s mighty city walls, the best-preserved ramparts in Northern Europe, where you can experience all of its charm up close. Then find a different perspective: You can climb to the top of White Water Tower for stunning panoramic views of the town, beach and surrounding hills and woods, or explore the exhibits and gardens at Fredericia Town Museum for a look at the city’s colorful past.
Soak up the sun: Swim, sunbathe, dine or enjoy a game of volleyball at Østerstrand, a pristine beach near the city center. Or make your way to Madsby Legepark, where you can enjoy a family picnic on the lovely greens — plus, kids will love the park’s playgrounds, activities and summertime puppet shows.

Stop for a bite: Head to a café to sample local delicacies. Traditional Danish sausages, open-face sandwiches, rich potato dishes, pickled veggies, meatballs and cured fish are all worth a try. Top it all off with fresh ice cream or ostebord, a cheese plate served after a meal with wine, grapes and crackers.
Venture beyond the port: Take advantage of the easy access to some of Denmark’s most famous historical sites …

Not far from Fredericia are the Jelling monuments — a fascinating collection of standing stones and burial mounds marking the site where Viking King Harald Bluetooth erected a rune stone to proclaim his achievements and christen Denmark more than 1,000 years ago. Marvel at these historic landmarks and discover the legacy of the Vikings at the impressive museum onsite.

A quick trip to Odense, the main city on the beautiful island of Funen, takes you to the birthplace of prolific Danish author Hans Christian Andersen, whose stories inspired many of your favorite Disney films like “The Little Mermaid” and “Frozen.” Here, you can visit Andersen’s home as well as various museums and activity centers that bring added meaning to his beloved fairy tales.

#Randolph – Situational Awareness and Self-protection Course

I brought both my boys here to become NRA certified when they became ‘curious’ about fire arms.  Their ‘curiosity’ absolutely changed into an educational representation with respect on the topic of anything to do with guns.  It was nothing I could have done or taught them.  But I saw and felt the respect and knowledge that came from them after I brought them here.  This looks like an excellent class too; especially if you have kids going off to college.

Situational Awareness and Self-protection Course

Length of Course: 3 hours
Tuition: $85.00

Date: Saturday July 21 at 9am

Description:

Situational Awareness is the ability to identify, process, and comprehend the critical elements of information about your environment with respect to yourself and a given situation. …More simply: it’s knowing what is going on around you.

Being aware of your environment is a key point in self defense, as well knowing how to avoid a situation before it ever happens.

This course will help you identify a potential threat before self defense is necessary, as well as being more aware of your environment during a defensive situation – this includes having an exit route in mind based on the layout of your surroundings. We will also help you understand stress levels, and how to manage them during a defensive situation.

PLUS: This 2 hour class offers basic knowledge, skills, and attitude for owning and using Pepper Spray. This course will cover the legal aspects surrounding who may carry and under what conditions one may use Pepper Spray. Additionally, the class will show what Pepper Spray can do, how to wear and carry Pepper Spray, explain what happens to a person who is sprayed, and first aid and decontamination procedures in the event you are sprayed.

Actual practice with inert spray is included in the class!

Upon successful completion of the course students will get their own Pepper Spray to take home.

Focus Areas:

  • Training on the mental aspect of situational awareness
  • Discussions on the different levels of stress and how to function in them
  • Training in the use of pepper spray including spraying real people with inert spray an active pepper spray canister is included at the end of the class.
  • Digital Simulator training for stress inoculation and OC training
  • Use of the shoot house and vehicle for realistic training

#Denville – County to Close Bridge At Denville-Randolph Border for Repairs Next Month

Openaki Road Bridge to be Shut from Aug. 8-10

The busy Openaki Road Bridge in Denville, a one-lane span that crosses the Den Brook at Openaki Lake, at the Randolph border, will be closed to traffic for at least three days next month to allow for repairs to a recently discovered structural flaw.

County to Close Bridge At Denville-Randolph Border for Repairs Next Month

Openaki Road Bridge

State bridge crews, during a routine inspection, discovered a flaw in the concrete deck on the bridge, which requires immediate repair.

While the bridge currently is safe to use, that section of the bridge deck must be fixed as soon as possible to prevent further deterioration.

The bridge is scheduled to be fully replaced in 2020 but the existing bridge must be kept in service until that time.

The repair work, to be done by the county Bridge Division, has tentatively been scheduled for Aug. 8, 9, and 10, prior to the start of the school year.

County officials have reached out to officials in Randolph and Denville to advise them of the issue, and to coordinate the repair work schedule and a detour plan.

During the work, Openaki Road, which becomes Casterline Road in Randolph, will be closed and traffic will be detoured from Shongum Road to Everdale Road to Mountainside Drive. Motorists should plan for alternate routes, especially during commuter hours.

The Openaki Road Bridge, a steel stringer structure, was built in 1924 and was rehabilitated in 1992. The 15.5-foot-wide, 54-footlong bridge carries an average of 4,600 vehicles daily. It is posted to carry 13 tons.

The recent inspection by the state Department of Transportation found that a portion of the deck slab was fractured and had settled, exposing the bridge’s  reinforcement steel.

Is the Denville Library rock and fossil event full?  Here is an alternative!

Ever explore the Franklin Mineral Museum? This is a great trip! This is the home of the world’s most famous zinc mines and spectacular fluorescent minerals.

Bring a small tack hammer and safety goggles for the kids and let them mine their own fluorescent rocks to create a fluorescent shadow box for their room.

Pick up a shadow box at Michael’s craft store, small mountable black light, and let the kids fill up the shadow box with their own mined fluorescent treasures at the Franklin Mineral Museum!
