Have a Potcake in Turks and Caicos, Dreams R Forever

For about 2 hours each day, puppies (with their handlers) roam the beach to meet and greet guests of Grace Bay! It is adorable and the guests love it! Not to worry if you are not a puppy fan; their handlers are there! But who doesn’t love puppies!

The organization is known as Potcakes Place. The goal of the 2 hour beach walks is to socialize these puppies, give them exercise and of course! they are available for adoption.

But why are these puppies called Potcakes? Potcake is the name given to the dogs of the Bahamas and the Turks & Caicos Islands. It came about because the locals fed the caked remains of the cooking pot to the dogs. As generations have passed, Potcakes have evolved into a breed which is extremely smart, loyal and loving.

Potcakes are rescued from around the islands of the Turks & Caicos by Potcake Place Rescue. Litters of puppies as well as individual pups are found wandering without their littermates.

The Potcake handlers even have a system in place to help guests of Turks and Caicos take these puppies home with them from vacation! So not to worry if you are here and decide to leave with a bit of love!

How can you help Potcakes K9 Rescue? Book a villa stay with Dreams R Forever and bring items on your vacation to donate. Volunteer to bring the puppies for a romp on Grace Bay Beach. Become a travel buddy and bring a puppy on a plane ride to his new home. Or just bring one home for you to love!

– Esbillac puppy formula please, we have lots of little one & this is difficult to buy on island!
– airline approved dog carry bags (for pets up to 22 lbs is ideal)
– fuzzy toys for the pups to play & cuddle with
– metal bowls for food & water
– Disposable (Surgical Gloves) Size X-Large, Large, Medium
– Water Proof Aprons for bathing pups
– puppy pee pee pads
– Drontal Plus dewormer and heartworm medicines (these can be expired – we’re not picky!!)
– Nexgard – to help out with the spay neuter program (these can be expired)
– old towels
– laundry pods – these are expensive on island and won’t leak in your luggage!
Of course, monetary donations are always welcome – either in person or via Potcake Place’s website.

Residents of the Cayman Islands enjoy a tax-free existence; local legend has it that the reason for the absence of taxation is related directly to the Wreck of the Ten Sail. According to the legend, a member of the passenger list for the 10 vessels included a royal prince, one of the sons of Britain’s King George III. The legend further states that when the King was apprised of the bravery on the part of the Caymanians in saving the crews and passengers of the foundering ships, he decided to repay their bravery. The reward became a decree that the people of the Cayman Islands would thereafter be free from war conscription and taxes. There is, however, no documented evidence that the decree was ever issued or that there was a member of the Royal Family on board one of the ships.

I had to update this article.  I actually have met Brian Bergen and his family multiple times as he is always out in our community rolling up his sleeves, lending a hand or leading.  I assumed he was already a leader; because, he is born to lead.

Brian Bergen is currently a Candidate for State Assembly in Denville.  And he is not above recognizing the efforts of others.  In this video, Candidate Bergen, thanks the #Denville Beautification Committee!!  #Denville does too!  I have volunteered with the Beautification Committee!  They are awesome!

 

Brian Bergen is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, a former Army Officer and Apache Helicopter Pilot, and a dedicated family man and community volunteer. Brian brings a lifetime of experience and dedication to the community and country.

Assemblyman Bergen!  Thank you for your service!
