#Denville – #IndianLake – A Look Back in Time

Indian Lake, Denville, NJ

One of the traditions at Indian Lake during the 1920’s was to invite members of the Lenape Tribe to the annual regattas. On Thanksgiving, I thought this would be a perfect time to share two fascinating photos that were taken at one of the regattas. (Courtesy of the Denville Historical Society collection.)

Our lake is rich with Native American and Lenape history. For example, the map of Indian Lake dated 1947 shows that Diving Board Beach was originally called “Matacom Beach,” named after the Lenape’s Chief Matacom.

The tribe name Lenni Lenape comes from their autonym, Lenni, which may mean “genuine, pure, real, original,” and Lenape, meaning “Indian” or “man.”

Happy Birthday to Disney Cast Member Miley Cyrus!

Disney Cast Member, Miley Cyrus, best known as Hannah Montana, is born November 23, 1992 in Franklin, Tennessee.

In addition to her role as Hannah Montana, Disney Cast Member was also the voice character of Penny in the Disney film Bolt, Celebrity Starr in The Replacements, and Yatta in The Emperor’s New School.

Other Disney roles portrayed by Miley Cyrus include: The Suite Life of Zack and Cody and The Suite Life on Deck as her alter-ego, Hannah Montana; as well as, a brief cameo in High School Musical 2. One of her songs “Fly on the Wall” was heard playing at the beginning of Disney’s 2009 science fiction/thriller movie, Race to Witch Mountain. She was mentioned in the The Muppets episode “Swine Song”. She also played Veronica “Ronnie” Miller in The Last Song, and Mainframe in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
