#Denville Public Library – The Untouchables

Friday, May 25th at 1:00pm see The Untouchables at the Denville Public Library. Please note, the Library will be closed Saturday, May 26th for Memorial Day Weekend.

Event Details

The Library’s theater will be screening the film,  The Untouchables (R).  Federal Agent Eliot Ness sets out to stop Al Capone; because of rampant corruption, he assembles a small, hand-picked team.  No registration necessary.

Denville’s own, Joseph Clayton, will be among the recipients of the Morris County Distinguished Service Medal for his service in the U.S. Marine Corps (Thank you for your service!).

The ceremony will be Memorial Day, May 23, 12pm at the Morris County Courthouse. Speakers will include Morris County Freeholder Director Doug Cabana and retired Morris County Veterans Services Offices and Marine Charles Jurgensen.

Election Day Voting

Every year two elections are held – the Primary (in June) and General Election (in November). The Primary election determines which candidate for a political party will be eligible to run in the General election. The General election determines who will win the position.

In 2018, Primary Election Day is June 5, and General Election Day is November 6.

Mail-in Ballot

also known as “early voting” or “voting by mail”

Early voting in New Jersey is done via a Mail-in Ballot, whether you are early voting by mail or in person.

In order to vote early, you must apply for a Mail-in Ballot. Mail-in Ballots are available 45 days before an election.

In 2018, the last day you can apply to receive a ballot by mail is May 29 for the Primary and October 30 for the General election.

Mail-in Ballots can also be picked up or filled out in person until 3 p.m. the Monday prior to an election.

Federal Overseas Voting

also known as “absentee voting” or “military and overseas voting”

If you are a US citizen living outside the US, or an active duty member of the military or their spouse/dependent, you are eligible for a federal overseas ballot.

Absentee ballot applications in 2018 are due on June 1 for the Primary, and November 2 for the General election.

National Click It or Ticket Campaign May 21st – June 3rd

The Denville Police Department will be participating in the national Click It or Ticket mobilization aimed to increase seat belt use through a zero tolerance enforcement campaign from May 21st through June 3rd.

Click It or Ticket is a high-publicity law enforcement effort that gives people more of a reason to buckle up – the increased threat of a traffic ticket. Most people buckle up for safety. But for some people, it is the threat of the ticket that spurs them to put on a safety belt. In Click It or Ticket programs, law enforcement agencies are asked to mobilize to focus on safety belt violations and publicize the stepped-up effort through news media and advertising. It is the two-pronged approach that makes these campaigns powerful: Not only are tickets issued to unbelted motorists, but the surrounding publicity ensures that people know they are more likely to get a ticket.

Click It or Ticket campaigns and similar efforts have proven to increase safety belt use. In New Jersey, 350 police agencies participated in last year’s Click It or Ticket Enforcement Mobilization. New Jersey’s seat belt usage rate currently stands at 94.07%, up from 93.35% in 2016 and the highest usage rate that has been recorded.

Please remember to buckle up. Everyone, every ride, regardless of seating position. Wearing a seatbelt increases your chance of surviving a crash by as much as 75%!
