Ohana means family – Disney World

Ohana means family – Disney World

~~Ohana means family. Family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten~~

April 12, 2017 ‘Ohana restaurant opened in the Polynesian Resort at Walt Disney World. Food is served family style, Disney friends stop by the tables at specified times of the day, and entertainment includes singing, ukulele playing, limbo contests and races where children push coconuts around the restaurant.

In the mid-1950’s, Walt Disney developed an interest in the Polynesia culture. He patronized Polynesian supper clubs and tiki bars. He loved the food and atmosphere so much that he wanted to open up his own Polynesian/Tiki restaurant. But Disney wanted to make the Tikis, birds and flowers move and talk. This was not only the birth of the idea for the Polynesian resort but Audio Animatronics, which is at the heart and soul of all the Disney parks.

Disney’s ‘Ohana Restaurant is located within the Polynesian Resort.

‘Ohana – ‘Ohana is a large family-style restaurant located on the second floor of the Great Ceremonial House, which serves breakfast and dinner. For breakfast, the location operates as ‘Ohana’s Best Friends Breakfast with Lilo and Stitch, a meal service with Disney characters Mickey Mouse, Pluto, Lilo and Stitch visiting tables while food is served family-style in calabash platters. During dinner, the location serves its ‘Ohana Feast, a family-style meal featuring several varieties of grilled skewered meats cooked on an oak-burning fire pit along with family-friendly live entertainment. If you’re lucky, you’ll have a front row seat to the Wishes fireworks show while enjoying this Hawaiian feast.

The Business Deal of Toad and Pooh – Hidden Disney

The Business Deal of Toad and Pooh – Hidden Disney

Before the Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh arrived in Magic Kingdom; there was Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride. When Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride was closed to make room for Winnie the Pooh, many Disney guests were sad and wanted Mr. Toad to stay. As the Pooh ride starts, there are several framed photos. One of these photos shows Mr. Toad handing Winnie the Pooh the deed to the attraction as a gesture of Mr. Toad’s support for Winnie the Pooh.

Back to the beginning, Disney’s Oswald The Lucky Rabbit, First Film

Back to the beginning, Disney’s Oswald The Lucky Rabbit, First Film

April 10, 1927, Walt Disney delivered the first Oswald the Lucky Rabbit cartoon, Poor Papa, to Charles Mintz, New York.

Walt Disney has a famous saying: “I hope we never lose sight of one thing—that it was all started by a mouse.”

This is only partially true. The Disney enterprise was built from the beginning of the Mouse. But history buffs always know there is more!

Oswald the Lucky Rabbit was created by Ub Iwerks and Walt Disney for films distributed by Universal Studios back in the 1920s.

Quite the long history developed from this cartoon character and it resulted in Universal Studios taking control over Oswald resulting in a dispute that went on for decades!

Disney did not regain ownership over Oswald until February 2006. Disney literally traded Al Michaels of ABC, ESPN and NBC Sports to Universal Studios for the return of Oswald the Lucky Rabbit!

Really quite the history!

Would you like to meet the behind the scenes rabbit that was there from the beginning?

Disney Legend, Richard Irvine

Disney Legend, Richard Irvine

Disney Legend, Richard Irvine (April 5, 1910 – March 30, 1976) headed up Disney Imagineering for creation of every Disneyland and World attraction.

The Richard F. Irvine Riverboat was named after the Disney executive Richard Irvine and was the second riverboat to enter into service on the Rivers of America at Magic Kingdom Park. Its counterpart, the Admiral Joe Fowler Riverboat, served from October 2, 1971, through 1980.

Cast member Irvine’s window credit in Magic Kingdom is above the Plaza Restaurant and says: “Walter E. Turtle Tour Dates are Now Posted at Disney

Turtle Tour Dates are Now Posted at Disney

Have you ever been to Disney’s Vero Beach Resort? Other than the fact that it is an absolutely beautiful resort to vacation at; did you know that a group of scientists from Disney’s Animal Kingdom work there with Florida’s Department of Environmental Protection? This is because Vero Beach has been a site where thousands of female sea turtles have emerged from the sea since the time of the dinosaurs to lay their eggs at this location.

Not only do the Disney scientists work with Florida’s Department of Environmental Protection to protect this fascinating phenomenon; but the Disney Scientists will take guests on night walks so guests can safely observe the loggerheads, greens and leatherbacks emerge from the sea at night and build their nests in the sand.

Disney has contributed $1.26 million dollars to sea turtle conservation through their Worldwide Conservation Funds.

CaribbeanDays is an Authorized Disney Vacation Planner and would love to set up this experience for our guests!

Sea Turtle Night Walk:

Choose from several dates in June and July 2018:
